JUST ONE YEAR TO MEDICARE!

Today, I turned 64 years of age. I don't feel any older than I did 10 years ago for which I am very thankful.

I have been thinking all day about that Paul McCartney song, "When I'm 64". It says: "Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?"

Age has never bothered me except when I went from 29 to 30. I sure did not want to leave my twenties for some reason.

Now, at 64, I am older and wiser and more comfortable with myself. I don't worry about what others think. I know what I like and don't like. I think I have mellowed and I am more accepting of life.

I have finally realized that I will not live forever and I need to do the things I enjoy now.

I have found that I can be silly with my grandson and make a fool of myself and people think it is just my age! If I don't answer right away it is my hearing. If I give a stupid answer or can't remember or talk about the weather too much that just comes with getting older. I get the senior discount at Kroger and they carry out my groceries. Most of the time, I get doors opened for me. I don't worry so much about eating that dessert as I once did. Once I started thinking about the good things I could go on and on.

I am so thankful that at my age I do not take any kind of medicine and as far as I know I am in good health.

I had a great birthday with cards and calls from friends and family here and on facebook and in the blog world.

In the words of the columnist, Ellen Goodman, "These are my good days and not-quite-yet old days".

How do you feel about your age?

Happy Brithday!!! My age, 62, is as my mother always said, is better than the alternative.....I feel the same I always have, at least in my mind. My body knows it is 62, but that is fine too....

My Age....
When I was three, it seemed to me, I simply could not comprehend the ancient age of twenty-three, or any age past six. Of course, when all the years between had passed and twenty-three arrived, I realized I wasn't old at all....but youth personfied. And somewhere down the distant road, lay forty-three, the sunset age of life...when "young" was truly past and "old" was firmly fixed, I thought. But at forty-three, you see...I scratched my head in disbelief, because I knew I wasn't old and youth was still at hand.
AHA! Sixty-three! Yes, Sixty-three....That's when I'll be old beyond recall. At last the truth had dawned on me. A man's not old 'till Sixty-three.
Will I be old at eighty-three? Most likely not, you see....because ....if I should reach that golden age....Still young at heart I'll be! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDY! And MANY MORE...you are still young!

Happy Birthday to youuuu, Judy!! and wish you many more happy birthdays!

I'm 66 and feel the same as when I turned 65. That was a turning point for me...I slowed down, took/take life more seriously,

and am even more grateful for the smallest of things...

Glad you had fun!!

You have a great attitude.

But please don't fool yourself that Medicare is a bed of roses. Be sure to find a good supplemental policy to go with it, without a deductible. And be sure all of your meds are covered (if that's even possible). Your "Golden Years" aren't always.

Well, my friend, I would have sung this to you had I been able. Have a great birthday and eat lots of cake.

Happy, happy birthday to you, Judy! Bless you, you're still a youngster! And there's so much more fun ahead, believe me! Having just turned 76 a couple of months ago, I can assure you that the best is yet to come! Continue to enjoy every day as I know you do. You give so much to so many and it all comes back to us when we are able to give -- of whatever. My best wishes to you!

Love,

Sylvia

Hi Judy, I think age is a matter of mind. I wish I could feel like I did before my heart attack and pacemaker, I use to out do my kids, not anymore. I would not lie if I said I wish I was 50 again but I don't mope around about it, life is to short. Have a great week.

Happy Birthday to you, Judy! :-) And just remember, Bilbo Baggins made it past 111, and had an extra special birthday party that particular year.

Hi Judy, Happy Birthday!!!!! I enjoyed reading all of your comments so far... Most of us say that the best is yet to come. I know that at age 67, I feel as if I'm in the best years of my life. I wouldn't go back for anything---although the aches and pains are little more prevalent these days.

I think that the Golden Years are as GOLDEN as WE make them. Life is all about attitude ---so keep your chin up!!!!!

Have a wonderful birthday, Judy.
Hugs,
Betsy

Judy, it's me again. did you see on the news recently about the oldest woman in the world dying? She was 115. Someone ask her what she contributed her long life to and she said "Drink plenty of water and keep moving." Sounds like good advice to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear Judy!

I'm a year older than you. I turned 65 in August and it wasn't that much fun. However, I know what you mean about not caring what others think of you. Life is entirely too short to waste on what others think. I parked in two spaces the other day and just didn't care.

I've realized that my family is all that really matters to me and would love to spend more time with them, but everybody has moved south, except our son and he is 45 minutes away. A little far for just dropping by for a bit.

I wish you a wonderful year to come and many many more. Remember to drink that water and keep moving!

Don't we wish we had the secret to old age. Where some people are healthy, and others not. Could it be the genes? I've decided that has a lot to do with it. And even to how we enjoy "old" age. I use to say it this way, "not many of us have seen anyone grow old successfully", however I decided to do just that so my grandchildren or children can say they did.
Happy Birthday and do you think it would be alright for me to stop having birthdays so you can get caught up with me? Naaah. Probably wouldn't work. (Smile)

Happy Birthday to you, Judy. I think you have a great attitude to age. And you have the best medicine or vitamin, life can offer, Thomas Wyatt. My parents would often refer to their grandchildren as "tonics" . (In India a tonic is a good medicine and nothing to do with additions to alcoholic drinks).

A belated Happy Birthday, Judy! I'm so glad you had a good day. I hope the year ahead is a joyful year for you, full of good surprises and unexpected pleasures.

I can't say I've liked everything about getting older, but, like you, I worry less about what others think of me because I've finally realized that what matters most is being true to God and to myself. And I know more now about what really matters.

When I reached 65 I did for a few weeks think of my mortality, then thought about my wonderful grandchildren and children and all the things I intend to do.
I wish you a belated happy birthday
and many, many more.
Take care.

Happy Belated Birthday!! I am behind in reading my fav blogs due to being outside myself getting beautiful autumn photos...and not being inside as much reading blogs on my computer.
I feel like you do about aging...it is a gift. So many of my friends and relatives never got to live this long. I love getting AARP discounts and "senior" discounts..I am 57, but I feel that you need to start "downsizing" the material things and doing the things in life you haven't been able to do yet NOW.
And desserts..yes...have them often!!! and hug those you love and tell them you love them at every opportunity.

Judy, Happy Birthday to you.
I love your attitude. I think the same way and have a few years on you. The only birthday I felt that time was moving to fast was the 70th. Now I feel such a blessing to be able to build and move back to my much loved land.
Blessings sent your way.

My first time here and I want to wish you a happy birthday!

I've never had a problem with my age, and I'll turn 68 in December. But like you, I don't take any meds and am very thankful that I'm in good health (except for a very bad back)!

I am 34. I am much happier than I was in my 20's. I think I've put enough time in to not feel confused about every curve ball that life throws at me.

I'm grateful for every moment I'm here and I think it shows. As long as there's another day for me, I think I'll be happy at any age. In fact, I see myself growing happier as I get older. :D

Perhaps I am getting forgetful though. Happy belated birthday, Judy!!

Happy Birthday again, Judy. I have to say that 64 feels pretty good to me, although I get kind of cranky when trying to figure out my upcoming Medicare coverage and the supplemental insurance. Part A? B? C? D? Are they just trying to discourage me from signing up by making it all so darned complicated? Why can't I just compare apples and apples? What if I move?

Umm, as I was saying, except for the occasional outburst, 64 feels pretty good to me!

You have yourself a wonderful day just chucked full of blessings!!!

Mom,

I am so glad you had a good birthday! I have to say that I had a problem with turning 30 a couple of years ago. I was just like you, I did NOT want to leave my twenties. But I have absolutely LOVED my thirties. Anne and I were talking about that the other day, being in my thirties has been incredible. BUT the thought of being in my forties....eeekk, that freaks me out!!!!!!!!!!

I love you!

Leigh
