ICE STORM 2009

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive but not out of the woods yet! We have been without electric, heat, phone, internet, and t.v. since Tuesday night. We have electric now but that is all. The rest is still out and we don't know how long we will have electric and heat. My cable line is laying in my yard behind my house. The electric line has a limb on it which makes me think it can go again at anytime. I am using a friend's computer to do this post.
If you click on the picture on the left that tree is beside my house. You can see where the big limb broke and fell into the pine tree on the right just skimming all the branches off the pine tree as it went down. It is above freezing today and I have limbs still in the top of trees that have to come down. They are saying the trees may come down when it thaws. Two guys are working right now cleaning up the mess in my yard.
I am very fortunate to have heat and electricity this soon. They are telling some people it may be another week or longer.
I have more pictures and will write more as soon as it is possible for me to do so.
Thanks to Rachel at Sliding through life for commenting and letting some people know what is going on here in Kentucky. There has so far been a total of 700,000 without electric. I miss you all and hope to be back online very soon. Love, Judy

You have permission to kick my butt if I ever start whining again about the snow and cold in Seattle! Bless you, Judy! and stay warm and safe and we do miss you. And not that it'll make you any warmer, but I did leave you an award on my blog.

Judy, I am so sorry you are having such bad weather. That storm must have been the grandmother of ice storms. I've been watching tv and reading about it in the papers. Hang in there!

I find the ice in the pictures so beautiful, but, when it is outside you door, not so pretty. We had a big ice storm in 1994, so this weekend our Light Gas and water is headed to Mayfield, KY to help out.
Do hope you get back to normal life soon.

Oh Judy! I'm so sorry you're having to go through all of this! You have been greatly missed! I hope that it's not much longer until you're up and going again! Keep us up-to-date as best you can and know that we are all thinking about you and miss you!

Judy, I feel bad for jesting about the chance I'd have to stay away from home because of no electric. It must be terrible. Are you equipped with a generator. We aren't so I'm serious when I say we would really be up a creek without a paddle.
I saw on the news tonight that Mountain View in North Ark sounds like what you've been through. So sorry - you'll have a lot to tell us when you get back. Have missed you.

Judy, I feel so guilty sitting here with weather in the late 70's and 80's, wiping the sweat from my brow....I hope you get over these extremes of weather soon. In the meanwhile, I can only do what I did for Barbara in the UK : virtually send you a big gust of warmth from this part of the world .......we have plenty to spare.

Be careful! Ice can be treacherous! I have missed your posts and wondered what had happened.

My husband has resigned from FEMA and is back volunteering for Red Cross. Perhaps he will be coming your way soon.

So glad to see you have posted finally. I've been worried about you a lot. Just saw in tv that another round is headed your way, but think it may just be snow.

It is a nightmare now, but just think of the great stories you will have to tell your grandson about the winter of '09. Hope it gets better soon.

Dear Blogging Friend, My thoughts and prayers are with you. Here in Oklahoma we have been having similar weather, but nothing as bad as you. Businesses and schools were closed for 3 days but everything is just about back to normal. The museum where I volunteer was closed all week but we managed to get it opened yesterday. Stay well through all of this!!!!

Please be safe, and I do hope you had water stocked up, along with food.

((hugs)) and prayers for you and your's, ~Judy~ in Florida.

I wish I could send El Paso weather to you all. We are warmer then usual for January and all you poor folks up north are suffering so much cold and ice. And they say there is no global warming.

I will be thinking of you and trying to blow a little of our warmth your way.

BTW my husband loves when I visit your site...loves the music.

Judy, I hope you are staying warm and safe. We spent so many winters in New England dealing with ice and snow and power outages, I know what you are going through. Oddly enough, one of our fondest family memories is of the three days the power was out one winter and we sat huddled under blankets with a fireplace fire in the Pretty Room, telling stories and trying to cook over the fire. Flushing the toilet with melted snow... Gosh, you must wonder what our bad memories are like! (lol).

Judy, that is awful, I am glad you, through all that are safe, to be without all that at once, I can't imagine. Hope everything is restored soon, take care friend.

Hi, Judy...I'm so glad to hear from you. Thanks for letting us know what was going on. I'm so sorry you and all the other folks up there are going through such hardship. I've been through quite a few ice storms (and hurricanes) myself where the power went out for long periods and it's no fun, I'll tell you, especially when you're on a well and you have no water. Thank goodness that big limb didn't fall on your house---I do hope that there is no further damage to your trees and that your house will be okay. Sending warm thoughts your way and praying for all the folks up there affected by the storm...

I hope by now that you are getting back to normal. We were fortunate to only lose power for about 24 hours, but my dad was out six days, and my son and daughter-in-law, living in our old home in Lebanon Junction, are still without power. They came by tonight for hot showers and a home-cooked meal. We spent yesterday cleaning branches from their yard. I'm grateful it hasn't been worse for us, as it has been for so many..

Judy--It's Monday night and I haven't heard from you in awhile. I hope you and your loved ones and friends in your area are okay. I know that the ice storm hit you badly--so I just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers. I don't have your email--or I would have written you that way..

Lots of hugs,
Betsy

I'm so glad to hear from you again!! I stopped in a few times and saw no new posts, so I knew something was up. Kentucky really got slammed with that ice storm and cold. cold weather.
I'm glad you are okay, and I hope all your services are up and running before too long.
I clicked to enlarge that photo. How scary!
Take care, blog buddy.
