Just a quick update on my trip to the dentist yesterday.
I arrived for my appointment at 2 p.m. as scheduled. She started me on gas to relax me. It made me deathly sick to my stomach and gave me a pounding headache immediately. So, we decided to try it without the gas.
Next, after drilling for at least 40 minutes she tells me we have a slight setback. It seems she broke the drill bit off in the root canal and could not get it out. I, now, have two options, she can seal it in the canal and leave it or I can go to a specialist that might not be able to get it out either. Supposedly, this kind of thing happens quite often and it is no big deal. It should be fine just sealed in the canal because they used to put in something metal to fill the tooth anyway in the past but don't anymore. Besides, it fits in there just perfect! I decide to leave it in and get it over with. I spent one hour and 35 minutes with my jaws locked open, being gassed, and feeling like I would feel that drill come out the side of my jaw at anytime and even paid her a big sum of money to do these things to me....... When I got home, I was so sick to my stomach I was afraid to do anything but lie on the bed and not move because I did not think I could make it to the bathroom in time. She said to continue the antibiotics for several more days! (They are making me sick, too) I don't have to go back unless it starts to hurt again. I may pull it myself if it does!
Today, I am feeling a little better but still got the nausea.
I did get to see Thomas Wyatt on Sunday and give him his Christmas presents. He is feeling much better and went back to daycare yesterday. It was so good to see the little feller.
Thanks for all your kind, sweet comments and hopefully this situation will clear up very soon.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. I have many root canals and crowns. She's right, years ago they left these long wire looking things down in the roots. At least that's what they look like when I get my teeth x-rayed. Now I'm getting little tumor like things that form on them and act like abcesses. I was referred to an Endodontist for one of those and I will never allow a regular dentist near my mouth again for anything other than cleaning, x-rays, and routine feelings. Trust me, an Endodontist is the way to go if this ever happens to you again.
Oh, my gosh, talk about nightmare alley! You've just been there! I'm so sorry you had to have this happen during the holidays! I had braces as a child and as a result have spent far more time in a dentist chair than I care for. I do have an excellent one now, but still don't like all the things they seem to dream up in order to keep my mouth healthy! Glad you got to see Thomas Wyatt. Hope you feel better soon! and Happy New Year!
Oh Judy, I'm sooo sorry to hear of the problems you have experienced with your dental work, I really was lucky in that everything went like clockwork for me... I think if the dentist had had bother I would have had a hissy-fit right there in the chair... I found a wee film of root canal work being done to a lady on the 'net and it's really interesting to see it being done to someone else. I thought my dentist was joking when he said, as I was leaving that I would probably have pain for a couple of days afterwards - it was a good job he did as I was prepared for the pain when it continued after the injection effects wore off. I hope your dental problems stop soon and you get some relief, 'cos it's no joke this toothache is it?
I'm sending good vibrations and Good Health Wishes with this message. Cheers for The New Year Judy, Love Kate xxx.
If you are interested in seeing the dental root canal work done correctly and without problems I am sending an email with the code on it for viewing, it won't be transferred on to this wee comment.
Oh, gracious, Judy...you have sure had a time of it! I do hope that you have no further trouble with that tooth and that your nausea soon subsides. I'm so glad that little Thomas Wyatt is feeling better and that you got to have Christmas with him after all.
I wish you the best in the New Year...and I pray that 2009 will be free of any unexpected visits to the dentist!
Judy....I feel so bad that this happened to you during the holidays. Here's hoping that things get better real soon. We can't have our favorite blogger under the weather.
Oh, Judy, what an ordeal! I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, and especially during the holidays. I just feel awful for you! Is someone there to take care of you? I do hope so. I'll say a prayer just for you.

Oh Judy that is terrible. What an ordeal. All that and then having to pay big money for it all too. I hope your pain subsides by New Year and that 2009 will be free of any visits to the dentist. Take Care!!
Judy, what an ordeal, omygosh it took that long and you still have the piece of drill bit in the tooth. These kind of experiences at the dentist makes a person not want to go again. Hope you are feeling better and the tooth does not start hurting, When you said you would pull it yourself, I had visions of Tom Hanks in Cast A Way with that ice skate and pictured you in his place, lol. I wish you a very Happy New Year.
Oh, Judy! I am so sorry to hear about your day at the dentist. I pray that you will feel better very very soon.
Judy, I am so sorry you had to experience this. I am sending heal quickly wishes to you. Again I am so sorry.
I worked for dentists when they used those metal points for root canal. It should be o.k.
I am sorry to hear you had such a hard time at the dentist. The sort of thing that makes you not want to go...ever. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh Judy, I am so sorry... Going to the dentist is probably my least favorite thing to do in the entire world. I guess part of my hatred comes from going to the dentist as a child and getting drilled without any meds/gas/whatever. Yipes!!!!
Hope you don't have to go back. AND--I hope you are feeling better by now.
Hugs,
Betsy
You poor poor dear. I'm so skiddish of dentist anyway, that I would surely swear off going. From the other comments it sounds like it will be ok, but I sure do hurt for you. Hope you will be up and better soon. Still love your blog.
Toothache is the worst, that and earache, get well soon
xx
Judy,
This has to be the season of folks getting hurt and sick. First Darlene has a fall. . Now you and Kate have dentists stuff happening right in the middle of your festive season. I hear the winter is causing a lot of people to suffer from viral infections.
But I just remembered something my late mother-in-law used to say when she didnt feel too good. She used to say , she had the best "tonic"; i.e. the grandchildren......
I am sure Thomas Wyatt is that and more for you, and I hope all of you get well soon. I am sure you will be out of your toothache problems soon..... Happy and a healthy New Year to every one...
Good grief! I thought stuff like that only happened to me! Bless your heart...what a nightmare. I've never heard of the drill bit breaking off in the tooth. Did she get all of the nerve out? If not it will "blow up" on you later.
I *think* I'd go back to her if I had trouble, but dang she ain't exactly hitting 1000 on you.
I hope your new year is much better and am so glad you got to see TW and that he is feeling better. :) and a little gentle *hug* for you.
I just know the new year will be better. For all of us!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
Judy, I am so sorry to hear of this nightmare with the dentist. Mercy....I hope you are on the road to recovery and can get back to feeling normal. The only thing normal around this house is a setting on the dryer....LOL Glad TW was able to come get his presents. Take care now!!!!!
What a nightmare experience you have had! Now I remember why I hate going to the dentist so much. Just the thought of such torture makes me shudder. I have a hard time keeping my mouth open long enough to get my teeth cleaned, let alone an hour-and-a-half! I never heard to leaving the drill bit in your mouth. It sounds painful..
Hope your are feeling better and are on the way back to normal!
I never heard of that happening before. I sure hope it heals FAST and you are back to normal again. I have never had the gas before. Always been afraid to try it.
Happy New Year!!
Being a person who has many, many dentist stories, I have to say that your post made me laugh. Only because it was so unbelievable, and it sounds like something that would happen to me. I hope things get better and quickly!
Judy,
Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry you've had such a bad time of it and hope by now you are feeling much better.
What a bad way to start off the new year (or to end the old one!!)
Anyway I will say..."Happy New Year!"
Junie
Gads, what a traumatic event!! It's enough to make you throw up just thinking about all that. Hope you get to feeling better real soon. Seems this holiday season was a disaster for a lot of us in one way or another.
Love

Love you!

Well, now, I have heard just about everything...dentist stories absolutely give me the shivers! I'm glad that she said you would be okay with the drill bit in your tooth. Just one more horror story that convinces me that my dread of dentists is well justified! Hugs hoping you soon feel much better. Glad you got to see TW. Love,
Ruby
