WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE!

This is just one of the many little devils that inhabit my yard and are playing havoc with my potted plants.

Every morning I find a pot where the dirt has been dug out and a nut has been buried during the night.

I put those little wind stars on a stick in some of the pots but they don't deter these monsters in the least.

Balisha of Never Enough Time suggested that I write a blog about my problem in hopes that someone out there in blogland can tell me what to do to keep the little devils out of my flower pots.

My poor plants are suffering at the mercy of these fur covered nut hoarders.

Does anyone have any suggestions??????

Yes, try mothballs. They hate mothballs.

Well, Judy, my first thought was to ask you if you have a .22 rifle. :-) But I guess you mean a HUMANE way to deal with the little tree rats. But, sorry to say, I have no idea. I have heard of people putting sharp stones around bulbs to discourage voles, but I'm not sure that would deter squirrels digging. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know. Good luck!

By the way, Judy, as always, I love your sidebar. I especially enjoyed "When I'm An Old Lady." Hilarious!

Does anyone know if the mothball trick will work to also get chipmunks out of my bird seed? And will it deter the birds?

Wish I could offer some help. I think there are so many dogs in our neighborhood that the squirrels try to find another place to search for food.

I'm so glad we don't have squirrels . The rabbits are bad enough.

Judy, I wish I knew what to tell you. There's a few squirrels here but they never dig in my pots. I have found a few walnuts in my big flower beds in the yard. I have trouble with ants getting in my hummingbird feeders. I'm working on something to deter them. If it works, I'll let you know!

No, no hints on squirrels. I need hints on pigeons that want to live in the beams of my house. I tried screen and they pushed it out of the way.

I have never seen a squirrel with pointed ears like yours. Is that a special breed?

Believe me Judy when I say, I will be following your blog closely the next few weeks, to see if you really did get a remedy for the "Rats with Long furry tails!"
I blogged about this last year, almost daily. I TOO NEED HELP!

I have squrriels in my front garden but as yet have not done much damage, As I live close to the beach they have been seen on the cliff top. I don't have any remedys as such but I wish youand your pot plants well.

The mothballs seem like the best idea to me. Just don't do what my mom did,and try to catch them alive and release them in the park. They tend to strangle themselves in the cage before you get them to the park to let them go!

Sorry I hadn't been around to see the post about your niece. My prayers go out to you and your family...

Grannyann, buy a fake owl (sport/hunting store). My bank's drive through was a poopy mess from pigeons until they hung a couple of inflated owls.
For the squirrels, wipe some caster oil on the pots, that should be enough to ward them off. Gophers and moles hate it.
Good luck.

If I saw a squirrel that looked like that I'd pack up and run! That is a wicked looking thing. We may have to rethink that trip through Kentucky or something.

Judy, I have no clues for you. Our little brown squirrels that are cute as a button dig a little bit in my flower pots, but it has been an acceptable loss...ya know. Live and let live, but dang when they start using a roto tiller..well..hmm. I'm with Beth and the gun. :)

HAHAH! This is so funny to me, that Devil Skwerl is hilarious! Anne and I don't have any issues with them out at the farm. The moles are horrible though! I hate them, at least you can SEE a squirrel, damn moles live under the ground!! hahaha Good luck Mom!

Love you!

Hi Judy, my sister uses moth balls and has had good luck. Thank you for coming by and have a great Mothers Day.

There's no stopping those evil critters!!
Maybe if you dress up in a squirrel costume and say BOO when a squirrel comes up, then they will stay away... but I doubt it.

:-)

Hi Judy...Is that a real picture of what your squirrel looks like? I've never see such a thing. It looks wicked. It seems we all have some critter that we want to get rid of. I have moles. Their tunnels are all across the back yard. Pretty soon it will be Japanese Beetles. Hope someone can help you out.
