A SEA OF LEAVES!

I have millions and millions of leaves in my yard. They are everywhere and this is the time of year that I don't enjoy my trees. I love fall but this is the one part I don't like.

I bought one of those pieces of machinery that sucks them up and mulches them but it has to be dry to run the thing. It has rained here the past few days and we are way behind on mulching. I bet we have already done enough to fill a 100 bags at least.

They would be up to your knees by now if we had not been out there every pretty day with the machine. Every time I go outside, I carry in half a bushel on my feet!
They are even on the roof this time of the year. Sometimes, if the weather gets bad, I have to finish in the spring. We put a lot of the mulch around the pine trees and in the flower beds and bag the rest.
The weather is in the 50s here today but they are forcasting snow flurries tomorrow.

People who live here always say if you don't like Kentucky weather to just stick around for five minutes and it will change.
I did get all my hanging baskets, flower pots, and small tables put away for the winter.

Maybe, we will have another pretty day soon and we can finish for the year.

Hi - I thought that we had a lot of leaves but you have us beat. I am waiting for the leaves to dry so I can finish raking. We have a leaf vacuum but I still have to rake. Our borough picks bagged leaves up several times in the fall. Do you have problems with leaves getting in the rain gutters? It's really a job making the transition from summer to winter.

I have a very small yard and only one big tree, but I know what you mean. I'm not able to rake them myself any more. Frustrating!

You do have a lot of leaves! We don't have that many here and although I think they're beautiful, I'm glad I don't have to clean them up everyday! That's funny about wait five minutes the weather will change -- they always said that in Texas as well!

Oh....Judy,
I feel for you. I had the same thing in my other house. It seemed we never got rid of them. Can you burn?

Judy I have been there and done that. I do know that the last years in other homes I would get some of the leaves up but by some miracle the March winds blew the rest of them away. Take care. Leave some and see they blow away!!!

Oh Judy, I used to have a huge tree in the backyard that caused a lot of hard work but the summer came and then I was only too glad of the shade again. Neverending job isnt it? Although, you photos looks good noentheless.

Our yard looks just as bad and yes we have rain which hampers the raking.

HiJudy, I certainly don't envy you your job with all these trees.. Thank goodness we only have one - My idea of heaven is being wrapped up well and to run through the park kicking the leaves everywhere - then at least I don't have to clear them up afterwards...
Cheers Kate x.

I can see why you might get a little weary of leaves this time of year, Judy! But they sure are pretty when they're on the trees. It's wonderful that you're able to use the mulch from the leaves on your other plant beds. We had quite a strong wind here today and when I opened the front door, twenty or more leaves blew into my house!

Oh arg...that makes me think of all the leaves we will have before long and it is not a happy feeling.
We went to our Botanic Gardens again today and it was so lovely down there. About noon a cold front blew in, but it wasn't cold at all just a lot of wind. It will get really cold here tomorrow night. Trying to decide if it is time to put everything in the greenhouse and go from there or what.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. I'll bet we walked a jillion miles today and I kept falling asleep on the sofa watching tv..just as well fall asleep in my bed.

Judy,

Its fun reading all such posts. I live in a highrise on campus, and although the campus is wooded, and the road gets sprinkled with leaves throughout the year, we have a whole bunch of people employed on campus to sweep them (not by machine, but with individual brooms)every morning.... we dont have your colors though; its all mostly green.

Most people like me, cannot really think of having a single family home in suburbia with yards and trees, and driveways in Mumbai. And so I enjoy your pictures, and the music alongside on your page !

You do have lots of leaves! We have a huge oak tree and most of the leaves are yet to fall. I wait until they have all fallen before I rake so I only have to do it once. I do not like raking leaves. They are pretty though!

You've got me beat, Judy. Unfortunately we had to remove several trees (the sweet birds were leaving deposits on our cars) and now we only have purple plum tree leaves.

Have you checked out one of those push leaf-vacuums, like a Dr. Leaf? They work great, but there's a big con to one of those: they cost a lot of $$$

my Judy you do have your share of leaves, we have quite a few but I think you beat us my a mile.
Have been busy these past few weeks as my daughter's mother- in- law passed away and have been looking after my grand son.
Must get back to my blog later,
Hope all is well and take care.

That's the great thing about living in the woods... no one expects you to rake! Also, since we are on top of a hill, the wind takes care of most of the ones that fall in front of the house. Cheer up, at least it isn't mud you are tracking it!

Fall is my favorite season, then spring. I think you should rake up a big pile of leaves and have Thomas Wyatt over for the day! Wouldn't that be a blast! You have enough leaves that you could actually rake up a fort!

Yes, you sure DO have a bunch of leaves to rake. They still look pretty, tho.

Wow! You really do have a lot of leaves! I know it must be overwhelming, but it sure shows the number of trees that you have in your yard and the beauty of them during other seasons. I'll hope for a big Wind to come through and blow them away....(lol)... are there any little kids who might want a project to earn a few bucks or some boyscout badges for volunteerism? Just trying to help you think of ideas!

I know what you mean. I raked come up in a pile then got the lawn mower and mowed over them to mulch them down. Worked pretty good only had a pile of mulch and grandson blew it around. Don't know which was the worst mess!!! Of course the neighbors pile of leaves blew over to my yard before the finally decided to bag what was left. Oh well --

The kid in me would drop to the ground and roll around in those leaves. LOL

Ok, the adult in me would do it as well!

Hey, me again! Thanks for the sweet comment about Sox! If you get a minute, check out my blog again, and tell me what you think about the new "reactions" that blogger has added. Can't decide what I think and was wanting your opinion! Thank you!!!

Judy except when it comes to a matter of survival - like stopping entry into the house - I'd choose to call the leaves mulch and let them do the job of rejuvenating the soil!

Judy, you and I are in the same boat!!!! My leaves are up to my knees. I keep waiting for all of them to fall, so I can clean out my gutters. They have really gotten ahead of me. And I'm afraid to burn because of what happened to me last week. It has me "burn paranoid." A few years ago, I could keep them raked up as they fell, but I cna't do it now....so I think some of them might still be there come Spring!!! Oh, I have made buscuits twice from the sourdough starter. They are really good. Next, I'm going to try the bread pudding. have a good Sunday!!!!

Dear Judy,
We only have two trees in our front yard, and Gramps was commenting the other day that we needed to rake them. I said, "Ha, we are living in the country, and I have no intention of finishing up destroying my back to rake them. Just enjoy their beauty, and they will be mulched in the spring when the mowers ocme back and mow the yard." So, I haven't heard any more about raking. Ha. You have my sympathy and I hope they don't give you too much of a pain in the rear. Love
Grammy
